Short, because there is little to say: your copies stay yours.

Just Copy stores your captured copies on your Mac. There is no Just Copy account, no analytics and no ads. Optional iCloud sync uses your own Apple account. We don’t receive your clipboard history. This page explains the app’s network connections and the controls available.

What the app stores

Text, images, files, links and the other kinds of copy it captures, with the time, the app it came from, and anything you add: a name, a folder, a note. It lives in a folder inside your Library, as a database and the pictures themselves. Delete the app and the folder is still yours to keep or remove.

Copies your password app marks as secret are skipped by default. Apps you name are skipped. Deleted cards leave the trash after 30 days. Expiry by age or size is off unless you turn it on.

What reaches the network

  • A copied link fetches its title and picture from the page it points at, and a copied address fetches its map. Both are for the clip you just made, and one switch in Settings turns both off.
  • Your license key is checked with the store, Polar, when you activate and about every 12 hours while the app is running and online. What is sent: the key and a device identifier, never your clips. Being offline never locks the app; only the store reporting a refund or a revoked key does, and only after two such answers at least an hour apart. When you choose to unlock another device through iCloud, your license information is shared through your own iCloud account.
  • Software updates. The Mac app checks justcopy.app for updates about once a day. These checks don’t send your clipboard history or a system profile. You can turn automatic update checks off in Settings → License → Updates.
  • iCloud sync, only if you switch it on. Your copies go through your own iCloud account to your own devices, never through a server of ours. Files copied from Finder never sync, and images over 10 MB sync as a thumbnail.
  • AI tools, only if you switch them on. Just Copy can run a small server on your own Mac that Claude, Cursor and Codex speak to. It is off by default and read-only unless you allow tools to add cards. Concealed clips, clips from excluded apps, and content detected as likely keys or tokens are withheld. Your assistant’s provider handles any content it reads. Copy for AI also lets you share selected context by pasting it into a chat.

What never happens

No Just Copy account, no analytics or tracking in the app, and no ads. We don’t receive or sell your clipboard history. Optional iCloud sync and sharing with AI assistants work as described above.

The iPhone app

The iPhone app is coming soon and has been submitted to Apple for approval. It is included in the same purchase when it launches. Copy something, then open Just Copy to save the latest copy, with your paste permission. It does not continuously collect clipboard history in the background. Saved cards stay on the phone, with optional sync through your own iCloud account.

  • Collect Screenshots, only if you turn it on. New screenshots from your Photos library are added when you open Just Copy. It reads your screenshots and nothing else in Photos, and it asks your permission first.
  • The camera is used only when you tap Scan Document, to turn a page into a card.
  • A copied link fetches its title and picture from the page it points at, as on the Mac.
  • The Just Copy keyboard types the card you tap. It asks for Full Access only to put pictures on the clipboard; text works without it. It keeps no record of what you write and sends nothing anywhere.
  • Unlocking with your Mac purchase. The license your Mac shares through your own iCloud account is checked with Polar, as it is on the Mac. If you buy the unlock in the App Store instead, Apple handles that purchase.

Buying Just Copy

Polar (polar.sh) sells Just Copy for us as the merchant of record. It takes the payment, handles sales tax, sends your license key and processes refunds. At checkout, Polar collects what a purchase needs, such as your name, email address, billing address and payment details, under its own privacy policy. We see your name, email address and order, so we can answer questions and handle refunds. We never see your card number. When you email us, we use your address only to reply.

This website

It sets no cookies and runs no analytics. Our host keeps ordinary server logs (the address a request came from, the page asked for, the time) for a short period, as every host does.
